Laparoscopic Surgery Errors

Montana Attorneys Helping Victims of Laparoscopic Surgery Errors

McLean & McLean, PLLP, has years of experience successfully representing victims of laparoscopic surgery errors. We have had many successes in past cases, with recoveries for our clients in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Laparoscopic surgery error cases are complex, and the attorneys involved need to understand the surgery almost as well as the surgeons. We do.

Laparoscopic procedures are intended to reduce the risk of surgery. They are often billed as a "minimally invasive" alternative to traditional methods of conducting a hysterectomy, gall bladder surgery, or another abdominal surgery. However, just because you have been told the risks of laparoscopic surgery may be lower, that does not mean that serious errors cannot lead to serious injury or death.

If you were badly injured or a loved one died during laparoscopic surgery in Montana, the experienced medical malpractice lawyers of McLean & McLean, PLLP, can help. Call us at 406-563-4411 or toll free at 1-866-303-4411 to arrange your free initial consultation.

What Are the Common Causes of Laparoscopic Surgery Errors?

Even though laparoscopic procedures are generally less invasive than traditional open surgery, some of the same surgical errors may still occur, including cutting of the common bile duct, organ puncture or perforation, organ injuries due to trocar placement, misidentification of anatomy, and anesthesiology mistakes such as over-sedation.

Laparoscopic surgery errors often arise out of the failure to take an accurate medical history, specifically the failure to take previous abdominal surgeries like a C-section or appendectomy into account. Previous abdominal procedures can leave extensive scar tissue and adhesions that lead to a condition doctors call a "complex bowel."

If your laparoscopic procedure was schedule without taking an accurate history, your surgeon may be unprepared for the complications that often arise in complex bowel situations. This can lead to the need to quickly switch from a laparoscopic approach to open surgery. Surgical teams are supposed to be prepared for this relatively common complication. Unfortunately, due to inexperience, ego or plain negligence, this is not always the case, and serious or fatal complications can result.

To make matters worse, victims of laparoscopic surgery errors are frequently airlifted to Salt Lake City, Denver or Seattle, resulting in time away from family, and in skyrocketing medical costs. We can help you recover money for medical bills and other damages.
